Course DescriptionFrom social media posts to open government materials, LLMs are pervasive in current human society. This course traces the evolution of natural language processing from traditional rule-based systems to modern Large Language Models. Students will explore the limitations of early NLP approaches, understand the breakthroughs that enabled neural language models, and discover how the revolutionary Transformer architecture transformed the field. Students will engage in discussions on social and ethical issues associated with using LLMs.
